Now here's where the fun really begins! If you haven't been to
my
Contesting Stateside Webpage, go look at it
first, because it
will
explain what a contest is. Worldwide contesting is when you go
and
operate from a different country. Within the past three years, I
have operated from Turks and Caicos Islands and Haiti in the
Caribbean.
If I am contesting from my USA location, there are many other hams who in the USA who are in the contest. If one of the objectives of the contest is to work as many different countries as possible, after you have worked one station from the USA, you have fulfilled the objective of working the USA. Now you need to work as many other countries as you can. You may work many more US stations, but many contests decide who the winner is by multiplying the total number of stations you have contacted "TIMES" the total number of different countries you have contacted. Hopefully, you got far enough in math to understand that working as many countries as possible is important! |

If we are in a country where we are the only station in the entire country in the contest, then everyone else in the contest has to contact us to score that country. It's like being Michael Jordan for 48 hours...........everyone wants to talk to us! It is not unusual to contact 200 stations in an one hour period. I have worked as high as 240 stations an hour for a couple of hours. That's four stations contacted and information exchanged every minute for 120 minutes. |
